Prospects for rain in 17 districts in Tamil Nadu

Posted on: 07/Oct/2019 11:15:42 AM
The Chennai Meteorological Center has informed that there are prospects for mild rains in 17 districts in Tamil Nadu due to the phenomenon of convective rain.

As the southwest monsoon rainy season draws to a close, the state of Tamil Nadu has received more than average rainfall in most places last month. Only in some places, the rainfall has been less than average.

In this scenario, the northeast monsoon rainy season is all set to start! It is expected that the northeast monsoon rainy season may commence in a few days or a week’s time.

During the current season between the close of the southwest monsoon rainy season and the start of the northeast monsoon rainy season, the temperature in Tamil Nadu has been hovering around with more than 100 Degrees. With this, the weather has been quite dry reducing the prospects for any rain.

However, the convective rain phenomenon has formed again leading to the cyclonic format in the upper layers of the atmosphere.  Due to this, there have been rains up to 40 mm in a few districts in Tamil Nadu.

Subsequently, there are prospects of mild to medium rain in the districts of Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Coimbatore, Nilgiri, Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Tirupur, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Vellore, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Thhothukudi, and Kanyakumari. There are prospects of heavy rains in the districts of Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi.
