Tondiarpet, Royapuram are some of the popular places belonging to the northern part of Chennai. These places are present lots of garbage and poor civic infrastructure etc. The news is in these places of north Chennai dengue cases are more now. Many cases of people affected with dengue fever have been reported in north Chennai.
A civic official mentioned that in the month of September 350 dengue cases were reported. He threw light on how in the initial stage dengue cases were reported from the southern parts of Chennai and how now there are more dengue cases from north Chennai.
He added that 70% of dengue cases reported were from the wards of north Chennai. Civic officials explained how the reasons for more dengue cases were being studied and how in October month the number of dengue cases would peak.
There has been increased in the mosquito breeding sources in north Chennai because of inadequate garbage clearance and faulty civic infrastructure. This was as per Mr. P.K. Sekar Babu, Harbour MLA. He then spoke about how in the government hospital there are around 600 people with fever. He was unhappy about the government claiming that more than 500 cases were of unknown origin.
It was mentioned by him that the government machinery had failed in this important aspect of public health. Mr. Sekar Babu then highlighted how the government refused to accept the fact that poor civic conditions have led to more dengue cases. He was of the opinion that the officials continue to under-report dengue cases and they were not certifying dengue as dengue. This has affected both dengue prevention as well as mosquito control operations in Chennai.
It is shocking to mention here that in Tondiarpet in North Chennai the official number of dengue cases was 25 in the month of September and this was the highest in whole Chennai city. The information is 80% of 200 wards in Chennai have reported dengue cases.
