30% surplus rainfall received by Chennai now, water crisis eased and residents happy

The Chennai city’s water crisis has been eased now. Thanks to the SW monsoon or southwest monsoon!!
It must be noted that this SW monsoon ended on Monday but it has brought a surplus of 30% rainfall, the highest since the year 2004. Between the months of June and September 2019, the Nungambakkam weather station recorded 492.6mm and this was against a normal of378.3mm rainfall.
It is now revealed by the weather experts that the withdrawal on SW monsoon that normally begins around 1st September has not yet commenced and this won’t affect the onset of NE monsoon. This NE monsoon is expected to bring 70% of Chennai city’s annual rainfall is known.
As per the director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, Chennai, Mr. Puviarasan, it is clear that in this year the performance of southwest monsoon has been good. He then threw light on how both TN, as well as Chennai, started the monsoon season with a deficit. It is important to mention that TN received 401.6 mm rainfall which was a surplus of 17%. It is brought out that the convective rains received by Chennai between July and September have been the highest since the year 2014 when it recorded 519 mm. Point is Chennai has been receiving surplus rains during the season at least since the year 2011.
It was later mentioned by Chennai weather blogger, Mr. Pradeep john that 378.3 mm rainfall was only expected in the season and in September Chennai got 104mm rainfall from one thunderstorm. He added that Chennai needs 4 such events to reach normal.
The important information is Chennai got 44.3 mm rainfall in the month of June before the official onset of monsoon. In the month of July, Chennai got 143.2 mm rains and in August Chennai got 121.1 mm rainfall. With 184 mm rainfall, September marked the highest in this season.
The rainfall received by Chennai city has eased out the water crisis and the present water situation now is the proof for the rainfall numbers recorded till now. It must be taken into account that since July both groundwater table, as well as reservoirs levels, have improved.
