Uber has brought in many features in their application software in recent times. The main purpose is to increase commuter safety. In addition to this, workshops have been organized by Uber for its drivers.
On Thursday, 12th September 2019, team belonging to Uber caught the attention of many when it revealed the steps Uber taxi aggregator has developed in the application software for the safety of the commuters.
It must be noted that Uber has got stringent driver verification program and it has been earning many positive reviews from the women passengers by gender sensitization workshops conducted for drivers in many cities like Chennai etc. A non- governmental organization called Manas organizes the workshops for the drivers.
It was later pointed out by Mr. Pava Vaish, head of operations India and South Asia, Uber, that safer transport for women is important and Uber is committed to providing safer transport for women commuters. He added that the Uber drivers have been trained to handle women passengers gently. It is amazing to mention that more than 6900 drivers took part in the workshops all over India. The drivers have pasted the sticker �We respect women� in their Uber cars.
It is known that the driver`s come from different backgrounds and different regions. It is said that gender sensitization helps in making the drivers treat the women commuters with great respect. This was according to a representative of Uber. She then added that for the women passengers to have a safe journey the technical team of Uber has been adding more safety buttons to their applications.
It is superb to note here that any passenger who wants to make an emergency call could press the safety shield icon on the map for immediate contact with Uber representative and also with the law enforcement official. The important information is in order to keep the passenger contact details secret and to prevent a driver from making abusive calls including rating related issues, Uber has begun routing calls and messages of drivers and passengers by means of a centralized phone number.
It was later mentioned by a representative of Uber that this 2-way call anonymization does not reveal the contact numbers of drivers and passengers unless they themselves share their contact details.
