The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, E. Palaniswamy will inaugurate shortly a new facility of issuing a replacement ration card for those who had lost the same.

Essential grocery items are sold at the Tamil Nadu ration shops at subsidised prices.

Smart Ration Cards have been distributed to the residents on behalf of the state government Department of Food. As per the earlier procedure, replacement ration cards were issued to those who either had carried out corrections in the personal details or those who lost their ration cards with the charges of Rs. 30.

However, with the service staff demanding higher prices for the replacement ration card, the system of issue of replacement cards was stopped. However, several applications were being received for replacement cards.

Subsequently, arrangements have been renewed to print the replacement cards in the district offices of the Department of Food distribution and issue the same to the applicants.

Smart ration card printing equipment has been procured for this purpose. 2 machines are to be provided to Chennai district and 1 each for the other districts.

An official from the Department of Food shared:

The setting up of the printing machine is in the final stages after the installation of software, etc. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, E. Palaniswamy, is returning from his foreign trip today (Tuesday, 10th September). In a few days, the Chief Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the system of issuing replacement smart ration card at charges of Rs. 20.
