Traffic congestion on the GST Road at Perungalathur is a headache now

These days, traffic congestions or traffic jams have become part and parcel of the lives of the residents of Chennai.

Located in the south of Chennai, Perungalathur is an important residential place is known. The latest news is regulating traffic on the GST Road in Perungalathur  is very difficult due to the fact that private omni buses continue to park their vehicles outside the lane allotted to them.

For more than 2 years now, the Tambaram- Perungalathur stretch has been witnessing severe traffic blocks. It is important to note that more than 1500 buses stop at Perungalathur bust stop in the weekdays and in the weekends the number increases by 500.  This was as per an official data.

It was later mentioned by a cab driver that dedicated lanes have been allotted for the omni buses but the buses use up the entire road to pick up the passengers and there was no space even for motorists here due to the blocks.

Point to be taken into account that the distance between Tambaram and Perungalathur is just 3.5 km. An auto driver spoke about how it takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour for him to cross the stretch sue to the omni buses parked here. It was later mentioned by a resident of Perungalathur that by shifting the pickup points for the omni buses just similar to the shifting of Alandur pick up points, this severe traffic congestion could be avoided. Some residents even revealed that it was the unplanned project of TN government and now it leads to the risks of their lives while crossing the road.

In the year 2010, to facilitate the construction of the Chennai metro rail, the police diverted moffusil buses through Chennai Bypass road from Koyambedu is known. A traffic police spoke about how efforts are being taken to regulate the traffic in Perungalathur.
