Indian Railways revenue of Rs. 1300 Crores collected from ticketless travellers!

It has been gathered from news from the Right to Information domain  that there has been an increase of 30% in the penalty collected from ticketless travel passengers.

Accordingly, for the last 3 years from 2016 to 2019, a penalty amount of Rs. 1377 Crores has been collected from the ticketless passengers by the Indian Railways.

The parliamentary committee has issued a notification earlier regarding this issue. In that notification, it was mentioned that the collection amount of penalties from the ticketless passengers had shown a trend of reduction.

Subsequently, Indian Railways enforced strong measures to act on the ticketless travel to all the zonal railways.

Further, the minimum penalty to be collected by each TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) was also fixed.

The minimum penalty of ticketless travel is fixed at Rs. 250. The total penalty collected on this from the year 2016 is Rs. 1377 Crores. On the last 3 years alone, there has been an increase of 31% on the collection of penalties for ticketless travel.

Around 47 passengers on the waiting list who had booked a berth never get the berth facility with the bed.

In southern Railways, around 31575 passengers book on the waiting list. However, only 19046 passengers get a confirmed reservation out of this! The number of instances where the waiting list passengers get confirmed is 61 every day.

The revenue earned by Indian Railways by the cancellation of the ticket bookings from November 2015 to March 2019 is Rs. 5366 Crores.
