No power for 28 hours Delhi-Chennai Duronto Express

Posted on: 08/Apr/2013 12:33:17 PM
The passengers of coach S5 of the Duronto Express from New Delhi to Chennai had their worst possible trip ever. They spent 28 hours without lights or fans on the train that travelled across the country in the sweltering heat.

‘There was no power in the coach when the train left Delhi but we realized it at dusk when people tried to switch on the lights. The ticket examiner was informed and a technician tried to rectify the fault but failed. We had to travel in the dark and sleep without fans. The railway officer told us that the fault would be repaired when the train stopped at a station. Power was restored when the train stopped at Itarsi around 8.30p.m., but did not last long. We staged a protest when the train halted at Vijayawada railway station. Railway Protection Force personnel and railway officials tried to pacify us. The station staff gave the signal for the train to start even though we were all on the platform’, said a passenger.
