The people belonging to the city of Chennai have been enjoying the rains now and these rains have come as a breather for the water starved people of Chennai. Point is this rain has not only brought happiness on the faces of the Chennai residents but also worry�s. The rains have brought many diseases along with it and this has made the residents feel unhappy and concerned now.
A week before, in places like Pammal and 7 wells in Chennai there were 2 suspected cases about diphtheria and they grabbed many eyeballs. The news about of the reports of both the above said cases turning negative has brought huge relief and the kids were discharged. Point is government is taking necessary measures to prevent an outbreak of diseases because there is an increase of monsoon related diseases now.
In Chennai based schools and in anganwadis, mass immunization programmes are held for the sake of the students and this was as per Mr. Kolandaisamy, director of public health. He hinted about the governments extra efforts as the immunization programmes are extended to cover private schools also in Chennai. He threw light on life threatening diseases like Japanese encephalitis and dengue and said until now only sporadic cases have been reported. It must be noted that there would not be an epidemic like situation in Chennai.
Mr. Kolandaisamy explained about how unused containers and water stagnation could help the mosquitoes to breed. He revealed about how an advisory was given to the public to remove these unused containers and to seal those places where water stagnate. The important piece of information is the prevalence of Japanese encephalitis or JE is very low in the state of TN. In as many as 13 districts in TN, vaccines for JE are being administered. Finally, he spoke about how 3 more districts like Chennai, Kancheepuram and Thiruvannamalai have been included in this list. The preventive steps taken by the government has been applauded by the doctors now. It must be noted that the doctors are much concerned about the anti-vaccination campaigns that were slowly gaining momentum in TN.
According to Dr. Ravindranath, general secretary, Doctors Association for Social Equality, propagating pseudo science and anti-science has become an art now. He spoke about how the preachers of nature based living must know that it is impossible for the humans to live without altering the environment as per their requirements. He finally threw light on how false propaganda would lead to severe implications.
