In this August, work on the 3 bridges over Puzhal surplus canal would start

It has been 18 months since the work to construct 3 bridges over Puzhal surplus canal was announced. The latest news is in this month of August the construction of 3 bridges over the Puzhal surplus canal would begin.

A letter of acceptance has been issued by the GCC to a contractor for the work. The project includes building bridges at places like Amullavoyal, Vadaperumbakkam and Burma Nagar within 15 months of time. It must be taken into account that this project is estimated to cost Rs 37.64 crores.

In the month of December in 2015, the area was flooded and this project was proposed is known. The superb information collected is the bridges would be built at a height of 4  m to 4.5 m from the canal bed. It is brought out that the vehicular traffic would not be affected even if the canal overflows during the heavy rains.

Connecting Andarkuppan and 200 ft road in Manali, Amullavoyal Bridge would be 108.5 m in length 12.5 m in width. Tirupati national highway would be connected to Madhavaram by the second bridge at Vadaperumbakkam that would be 90 m in length and 14 m in width. Manali Expressway would be connected to the Burma Nagar Main Road by a third bridge and this bridge would have a length of 100 m and width of 12 m. It is revealed that the residents belonging to Manali, Burma Nagar and Sadayankuppam would be benefited.

An official later mentioned about how an agreement would be completed in a week and how the work would start later. Public Works Department or PWD owns the canal and widening of the canal comes under PWD. The engineer belonging to the Corporation explained about how the new bridge at Amullavoyal would cost Rs 11.99 crores and the bridge at Vadaperumbakkam would cost Rs 13.58 crores and one at Burma Nagar would cost Rs 12.07 crores.

Design work as well as procurement of the materials would be carried out once the sites are handed over to the contractor in few weeks of time. The official expressed his hope about the new bridges and said bridges would be completed in 15 months.
