Take action against govt staff with more than one spouse: HC

The Madurai Branch of the Chennai High Court has ordered that stringent action must be taken by the government department of the Chief Secretary when the government employees get married for a 2nd time.
A petition filed by Thenmozhi of Madurai came up for enquiry in the Madurai Branch of the Chennai High Court regarding the availing of her husband�s pension benefits before Judge S. M. Subramanyam.
At the end of the enquiry, the judge dismissed the claim of the 2nd wife for the husband�s pension. Further, the concerned government department should take immediate stringent action on the government employees who marry a 2nd time. The department should conduct proper scrutiny/checking of the applications which come for recommendation and then only approve.
The husband of the petitioner is a police officer. Even as working in the police department, knowing fully aware the=at 2nd marriage is an offence, he got married a 2nd time. This is not proper behaviour. It is a crime indeed!
So, the judge ordered that in case the government employees get married a 2nd time while the 1st wife exists, the concerned department must take immediate action and in case required must proceed taking action on criminal proceedings.
