Aadi Krithigai festival - Special grand celebration in Lord Muruga temples!

On the occasion of the sacred �Aadi Krithigai� ( the day in which the star �krithigai� (out of 27 stars) falls in the Tamil calendar the month of Aadi � as per the Hindu Almanac) falling today, Friday 26th July, special poojas and prayers were conducted in several temples dedicated to Lord Muruga throughout Tamil Nadu.

Palani
In the Lord Muruga temple at Palani in Dindigul district, the temple corridors were opened at the early morning at 3.00 AM and thousands of devotees gathered to stand in long lines and had a Darshan of Lord Muruga. A large number of people, as a form of penance committed to the Lord, carried �kavadis� and offered to the Lord.

Thiruthani
Out of the 6 special temples dedicated to Lord Muruga under the group �Murugatruppadai� veedugal, Thiruthani is the 5th one.  Aadi Krithigai was celebrated in a grand manner. A special �Abhishekham� was performed on the main deity of Lord Muruga at 4.30 AM and the deity was then adorned with emerald stone, golden spear (�Vel�). Golden crown (Thanga Kreedam) and diamond pieces of jewellery and then, a special �Deeparaadhanai� was performed on the deity. The celebrated �theppam� festival is scheduled to be conducted at 6.00 PM in the sacred pond �Saravana Poigai� situated at the base of the mountain.

Thiruchendur
The corridors of the famous Lord Subramanya Swami temple at Thiruchendur in Thoothukkudi district were opened early morning today and the devotees had a Darshan of the Lord on this Aadi Krithigai day. A large number of devotees had a sacred bath in the sea and carried �kavadi� as per the penance commitment) and singing and dancing, they carried out their penance.

Thirupparankundram
Out of the group of 6 special temples dedicated to Lord Muruga, Thirupparankundram Lord Subramanya Swami temple is the 1st.  The deity of Lord Murguga along with His Consort Divayani, offered Darshan to the devotees. Subsequently, the deities of Lord Muruga along with His consorts Valli and Deivayani were taken on a procession.  A large number of devotees had gathered in line at the �Gugai� temple and had Darshan of the Lord.

Thiruvannamalai
In the temple dedicated to Lord Subramanya Swami near the Round Tana in Thiruvannamalai, on the occasion of this sacred Aadi Krithigai estival day, the males carried kavadis and the females carried milk-pots and came in a procession and had Darshan of the Lord. The main deity of the Lord Muruga was especially adorned for this special day and Deepaaradhanai was performed.
