For the Chennai city to be clean and neat, corporation introduces a new concept

Now the term ‘Plogging’ has become the talk of the town. Point to be noted is plogging is a concept borrowed from the county of Sweden. To make plogging successful, corporation of Chennai would be associating with many jogging groups. Plogging activity involves jogging and quickly stopping to pick up the waste.

It is now revealed that the officials of Chennai Corporation are hoping that this plogging initiative becomes a fitness trend in the future.  At the popular Elliots Beach on Sunday, 14th July 2019, corporation commissioner of greater Chennai, Mr. G. Prakash, made many eyeballs turn when he inaugurated and took part in the Chennai Plogging Challenge. It is important to mention that around 150 persons took part in the event in which people from the locality also joined. This was apart from the volunteers and in the end 300 kg of garbage was collected.

It is known that the garbage segregation and collection is the main work of the civic body. Mr. Prakash spoke about how active participation of the citizens is very important. He highlighted that for one crore citizens there are 20,000 conservancy staffs. Mr. Alby John Verghese, regional deputy commissioner south spoke about how the citizens should strive together to keep Chennai neat and clean. He then hinted that the corporation would leverage the prevalence of running groups in Chennai city to spread awareness regarding plogging.

A resident belonging to Kalakshetra Colony in Besant Nagar appreciated the move by the Chennai Corporation to keep Chennai neat and clean. He then revealed that the citizens have been campaigning aggressively for the clean beach. Important information collected is this plogging would become a monthly activity and this has been planned. Volunteers from across Chennai would assemble at a common point and take part in mass cleaning along with jogging.
