For conserving water, Chennai metro installs aerators in the stations

At this time of water shortage in the city of Chennai, what Chennai metro has done has caught the attention of many now. Information collected is Chennai metro has stepped up measures to reserve its resources in all its stations.
In the 45 km phase-1 project, Chennai metro have started installing water aerators in the washrooms in all its 32 metro stations. It was later mentioned by an official belonging to CMRL that aerators are devices fitted at the end of faucets and taps in the washrooms so that the flow of water is limited and not wasted. The superb information is by these aerators 35% of water could be saved in each metro station in Chennai. The official later spoke about how aerators have been fitted at several metro stations such as Anna Nagar east, Anna Nagar Tower, Thirumangalam and Chennai Central etc.
Recently CMRL was criticized by many for switching off the air conditioners in the metro stations, trains etc. It is now said that by switching off the air conditioners at the metro stations, the water consumption is now reduced to more than half and that is superb.
In a day, all the 32 metro stations together in Chennai would consume about 405 kilo litres. The air-conditioning has been turned off for nearly 2 months now and the water consumption per day is now just 150 kilo litres. This was according to an official of CMRL. He then added that on an average there is a requirement of about 1500 to 2000 litres per day at each metro station and the water is being used for toilet and for other maintenance purposes. It must be noted that earlier each underground metro station in Chennai alone needed 9000 litres of water and out of which 7000 litres was used for air-conditioning.
