Due to strike, city buses do not run: teeming crowds in suburban trains!

Posted on: 01/Jul/2019 10:37:00 AM
As the monthly salary has not been paid for the Chennai Metro Transport Corporation drivers and conductor, they are on strike from this morning (today, Monday, 1st July), Chennai city buses are not running. Hence, there were additional teeming crowds in the suburban trains.

Around 3500 buses are kept out of service from early morning today (1st July). 850 buses are not operating from the workshops at Ambattur, Avadi, Pattabhiram, and Thirumangalam.

Though threesome buses in operation, they as very few for public convenience. Even the conductors of these buses are in doubt whether the next service would be available!

Further, the drivers and conductors have not operated the buses from the workshops and are protesting. Thus, the public, students, and the office-goers have all been put to great hardships.

As it happens to be a Monday, the 1st day of the working of the week, people are constrained to attend work and hence they have taken trains. Because of this, there are additional crowds in the suburban electric train systems.

In this situation, it has to be noted that the Chennai Metro City Corporation has explained that as it was a Sunday yesterday, salary could not be deposited in the workers bank savings accounts. However, the salary will be credited to all workers before tonight. Further, the rumour that 65% salary has been paid is the wrong one. The salary in full is yet to be credited.
