How would you feel when you wake up with the smell of sewage around you? Very difficult isn’t it!!

In Chennai, Mogappair West is an important residential locality is well known. This Mogappair West is now making news for wrong reasons. On Monday, 24th June 2019, the residents belonging to VGP Nagar and Mohan Ram Nagar in this locality woke up to flooded streets. The point is this flooding was not created due to heavy rains but due to sewage.

Many office goers as well as school students use this Mohan Ram Nagar Road to reach other places like Mogappair East bus terminus found very difficult due to sewage present on the road. It must be noted that in the early hours of Monday a pit was dug by a private telecom service operator. The sewage was gushing out of this pit creating lots of issues for the residents there. The presence of slush on the main road and on the Shravan Street made walking very difficult.

A resident later spoke about how he was worried about the sewage entering the sump collecting water as his house was situated at a lower level than the road. Just 4 days back, the road was blacktopped and now it has been dug up again. He finally mentioned about how it was waste of money to allow digging work in a newly laid road.

The shocking information collected is a private telecom had dug up the road without obtaining the required permission from the GCC or metro water department. This was as per the sources belonging to Chennai metro water. Important piece of news is 600 mm sewer pipeline from Korattur pumping station to Koyambedu was damaged. It was later pointed out by some officials that the work was going on to flush the stagnant sewage on the road and to repair the pipeline.
