With the onset of the southwest monsoon rainy season in Kerala recently, the weather bureau has informed that there are prospects of heavy rains today (Thursday, 13th June) in some areas located adjacent to the state of Kerala.
Accordingly, an announcement has been released that there are prospects of heavy rains in a few areas in the districts of Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Theni and Niligiris.
As regards Chennai, the Meteorological Centre has informed that the Chennai Metro City will remain cloudy and there are prospects of over 100 Degrees Fahrenheit being recorded.
An official from the Chennai Meteorological Centre shared in this regard:
There are prospects of heavy rain on Thursday, 13th June (today) in a few places in the 5 tamil Nadu State districts of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Theni, Nilgiri, and Coimbatore mainly due to the southwest monsoon rains. There are prospects of medium rain in 1 or 2 places in Tamil Nadu due the phenomenon of thermal convection. At the same time, the intensity of heat will be much higher in a few places in the districts of Thiruvallur, Chennai, Vellore, Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai, Trichy, Perambalur, and Cuddalore.
Recorded rainfalls in mm as at 8.30 AM on Wednesday (12th June): Devala in Niligiri district 100, Valparai 60, Coimbatore district Chinnakallaaru and Kanyakumari district Kulachal 40.
Temperature crossing 100 Degrees Fahrenheit: On Wednesday (12th June), the temperature crossed over 100 Degrees fahrenheit in several places in Tamil Nadu. A maximum of 107 Degrees Fahrenheit was recorded at Tiruthani and Chennai Meenambakkam. Chennai Nungambakkam and Vellore recorded 105 Degrees. Parangippettai recored 103 degrees. Nagappattinam recorded 102 degrees. Madurai Airport recorded 101 Degreees. Adiramapattinam and Thondi recorded 100 Degrees.
