Posted on: 10/Jun/2019 10:14:11 AM
Residents present along the Rajiv Gandhi Salai or OMR are now worried a lot about the rains than the others. In many apartment complexes in OMR, water is now rationed. The information gathered is many apartments are supplying water only in the fixed hours in the day or restricting water supply to one bathroom.

According to Mr. Harsha Koda, Federation of OMR Residents Association, instead of the requirement of 40,000 litres per day just 25000 to 30000 litres of water is got and he was unsure about how long this would last. He added that tankers could resort to strike if they could not bring water due to court order. Harsha Koda was hoping that monsoons in Kerala would also bring rain in Chennai soon and would solve the water crisis. It was brought out that some residents living in areas without water supply have shifted to houses with water.

A resident of Karapakkam explained about how couple of homes in his streets were empty due to water being absent. He spoke about how many residents went to their native places or friends houses during the recent water tanker strike. It was pointed out by another resident that earlier water was available round-the-clock and it helped them to complete their works in the stipulated time. Now this has become very difficult. She finally explained about how there are few apartments where just  one hour of water supply is provided and when compared to them how her apartment is better with 5 hours of water supply.

As per Mr. Jose Manavalan, Oceanic Owners Association, their votes would count in the local body elections. He expressed his unhappiness regarding the government and builders not providing water and sewerage lines in these places. He highlighted about the rainwater harvesting and renewable that was provided up to a limit which is needed to get permission. It was later pointed out by Mr. Saravanan, TN Water lorrys Owners Association that they would not go on strike now. He explained about how work of the government has been done by them that is supplying water to the residents.
