TN Industry security project stands still for 7 years

Nearly 7 years ago, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J.Jayalalitha had announced the Tamil Nadu Industrial Security Force. Still, the project has not seen any progress than the announcement made.

At major establishments like the TANGEDCO, dams, government offices, banks, court, etc., there are over 2000 personnel and police inspectors deployed in duty. We are literally waste of manpower to deploy such personnel in handling watch and ward duties, say senior officials.

Jayalaitha had announced about staring a force and in fact, she also did issue an order in this regard. Nevertheless, the project has not got its shape yet ADGP ranking officials are proposed to lead the same. This will notably have both men and women participants. Their services will be open to all the companies and PSUs and whoever wants can avail the same.

There should be a separate TN state security corporation, says Third Police Commission. There is rapid expansion of the Chennai metro rail and industries which adds up to the need for forming such force. And the police ought to upkeep the law and order, prevent, detect and manage crime, says another police official.

It is to be noted that in Karnataka, the industrial security force is already functional since the year 2013. Back in  2013, the KSISF (Karnataka State Industrial Security Force) was  kick-started. It involved intense training for 1 year by CISF, says ADGP,  Bhaskar Rao. He adds that they have got about 3000 personnel. Their force is deployed at the key establishments that absorbs heavy footfall. There is soon going to be a quick reaction team of the KSISF, he adds and states that the measure will largely bring down the burden of police officials that in turn lags enough staffing.
