For the first time ever, Anna University to offer post doctoral fellowships

For more than 40 years, Anna University or AU belonging to Chennai has been producing many youngsters with superb talent. This Anna University or AU is now the talk of the town. The reason for that is for the first time, AU would be offering postdoctoral fellowships. It is revealed now that the application forms are available at the

For the purpose of putting the research resources into good use, AU would be offering postdoctoral fellowships to the candidates. No deadline has been specified and the fellowship is open.
As per the registrar, Mr. J. Kumar, an amount of Rs 60 crores has been spent to purchase equipments and that was in the last 4 to 5 years. It must be noted that UGC, DST and University with Potential for Excellence have played their part in providing funds to AU.
The important information is AU wants few post doctoral fellows who would be more mature to handle the high cost equipments and also to do something unique. A committee would be scrutinizing the fellowship applications. Those research fellows who are interested to work with the departments other than the ones related to their specialization would be given more preference.
The registrar pointed out that the research fellows must show high enthusiasm and purpose and the research fellow must be aware of the kind of research activity going on at the university. He then added that it has been a difficult exercise for the scrutinizing committee. As per Mr. Kumar, registrar AU, it is clear that AU has created a corpus of amount of Rs 18 crores and from that amount AU would be funding 15 to 18 post docs.
The registrar then hinted that accommodation would be provided to the post doctoral fellows either at the university guest house or at university premises. For a period of 2 years the candidates would be given fellowships and depending on their performances the fellowship could be extended for an additional year. It is important to mention that if during their tenure a teaching vacancy arises then the researcher would be given a chance to teach.
