After this parliamentary election debacle, the future of the Congress is a question!

Having dominated the countrys history and politics for so many years, the doubts have now arisen about the future of the Congress party, especially after this recent debacle in the parliamentary elections! It has been a rather humiliating defeat at the hands of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)!

The Congress Party has only managed to win only a few more seats as compared to the 42 seats it had won in 2014! Thus, the partys very existence has come in question calling for some serious introspection! The most alarming aspect is the loss of Rahul Gandhi  at Amethi, considered as the pocket-borough of the Gandhi family which it held for so many decades! It has failed again to clinch the post of Leader of Opposition in the lower house!

There is a feeling that the extraordinarily derogatory remarks on the prime minister might a deciding factor! Event the attractive proposal of scheme Nyay mooted by the party failed to appeal!

Following this rather humiliating defeat, Rahul Gandhi has owned responsibility who would review the reasons! He also congratulated Narendra Modi! However, the various prominent leaders of the Congress party have shared their views on this! Pathetically, Congress scored a zero in as many as 17 states and Union territories, including in Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s home state of Gujarat, where the party had fared well in last assembly elections in 2017.

In Rajasthan, it has just won 1 seat!  And in MP, only 2 seats! It did not win any seats in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Odisha and also most northeastern states except Assam! The brighter side: the party won 8 seats in Kerala, and 8 out of 9 seats in Tamil Nadu! It managed only 1 seat each in Puducherry, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa.
