From ICF in Chennai, 60,000th coach flagged off now

Tuesday, 21st of May 2019 was very special day for the Indian Coach Factory in Chennai. It must be noted that on Tuesday ICF had flagged off its 60,000th coach, a self propelled inspection car. This was done in the presence of Mr. Rajesh Agarwal who is the member, Railway Board. It is important to mention that Mr. K. Venkateswarulu, a retiring employee of ICF flagged off this coach.

It is known that there are some coaches that are being manufactured in ICF Chennai that would be exported to Sri Lanka Railways. Mr. Agarwal inspected these coaches yesterday. He expressed his happiness about ICF being the world’s largest manufacturer of coaches. It must be noted that in 2018-19, ICF had rolled out 3262 coaches. Mr. Rajesh Agarwal then praised the efforts of the employees of ICF and said in the next year ICF would break its own record and would manufacture as many as 4000 coaches.

In the current year, ICF would take up the design, development and production of Train 19 which is a sleeper version of train 18 on the lines of Rajadhani express. The important information that has come out is ICF would be playing its role in manufacturing more Vande Bharat Express train sets and as many as 40 such train sets would be rolled out. Point to be noted is 12 air-conditioned suburban rakes would also be rolled out soon.

 It is brought out that the matter would be discussed at board and then supply of rakes would be finalized. Member, Railway Board, Mr. Rajesh Agarwal later hinted that some South -East Asian and south American nations have shown interest on the export of Trains 18 train sets.

The sensational piece of information is Rs 2500 crores infrastructure improvement projects were planned for the coach production units of Indian Railways. It is now said that out of total Rs 2500 crores, Rs 500 crores has been allotted for ICF. At Lattur, another rail coach factory is getting ready and would be commissioned. It is well known that ICF was established in the year 1952 and is involved in the production of rolling stock for Indian railways.
