The Vice-Chancellor of the Nagapattinam Tamil Nadu Dr, J Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Dr, S. Felix, informed that the merit/rank list of students based on cut-off marks for admission to the courses offered will be released during the 2nd week of June.
In an interview to the press conducted in the Tamil Nadu Dr, J Jayalalithaa Fisheries University complex, the Vice Chancellor shared:
�This University which was started in the year 2012, has achieved tremendous growth with assistance from both the central and the state governments. It was initially started with 3 colleges. Presently, this university has 10 colleges functioning under its control. Graduation courses in Fisheries Science, Fisheries Engineering, Biotechnology, and Food Technology are being offered here.
Presently, deep-sea fishing is ventured by fishermen only in Thoothur, located in Thoorthukudi District. Considering this aspect, and in order to encourage to venture in deep-sea fishing, a new graduate course Fisheries Mechanic Technology (B. Tech.) is set to start during the coming academic year in Thoothukudi. 20 students are proposed to be admitted in this 4-year integrated graduate course.
In a similar trend, a graduate course on Skill and Environmental Engineering in Nagapattinam and a graduate course on commercial management (Fisheries Commerical management) in Chennai is also set to be started. These will be 4-year integrated courses. 20 students are proposed to be admitted in each course above.

A special section for the children of fishermen community is being conducted in this University complex from 2017. Under this section, 7 seats in the graduate course for Fisheries Science and 1 seat for the graduate course in Fisheries Engineering are allotted as a quota for this section. The education and the boarding (food) would be free for the students admitted in the above quota.
The rank/merit list based on the cut-off marks of the Tamil Nadu Dr, J Jayalalithaa Fisheries University is set to be released during the 2nd week of June. The counselling is scheduled during the 2nd week of July. The Vice-Chancellor informed that the dates and place for counselling will be announced later.�
