For laying cables, common duct would be utilized by the telecom service operators. The official finally spoke about how the Chennai Smart City officials have studied models in cities like Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad and how a better model would be got.

It is important to mention that the common corridor for the fibre optical cable network is expected to promote the smart city mission projects such as command and control centre, reduce inconvenience to the residents plus reduce the time to roll out digital services, cut the cost to the operators by enabling growth of the digital services. Other important benefits are this common optic fibre cable corridor would lead to an improvement in the quality of service and create infrastructure for 5-G.
