In Chennai, B.Com is the most sought after course by the students now

In the past the students after completing their class 12 mostly prefer engineering courses. Things have changed now and the news that has come out is colleges in Chennai city are being flooded with applications for the B.Com courses. This has clearly proved that the students have shifted their focus from engineering to arts and sciences courses now. The B.Com course is having huge demand now.

One of the highly popular Colleges in Chennai is Loyola College. It is now revealed that since Saturday as many as 17,403 applications have been received by this college and out of those applications majority is for B.COM curse followed by visual communication course. Principal of Loyola College, Andrew Francis spoke about the revival of arts and science streams now.

He threw light on how 5 years back many colleges were considering closing down some of the branches and how decline in the interest for engineering courses have given new life for arts and science courses now. The principal was happy that basic science courses are able to attract more students these days. He explained the advantages of B. Com course and said the course has got wide range of job opportunities than other courses.

It was pointed out by S. Kothai, secretary and principal of Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai that their college received more than 15000 applications out of which 4000 applications belonged to B. Com course. She added that after B.Com majority of the students prefer BA English Literature.

As per Lalitha Balakrishnan, principal of MOP Vaishnav College for Women, as many as 17,000 applications were received and out of those one third are for B.Com course. It must be noted that the colleges sanctioned strength is 1300.

In the 2019 NIRF rankings, Chennai based Presidency College was ranked no 3 is known. In this college, in just 2 days of time, as many as 5000 applications were sold. According to the principal of Presidency College, Mr. Ravanan, the sale of applications has been brisk and the college expects students belonging to northern states also. He threw light on how in the year 2018 the Presidency College received a total of 10,000 applications from the students and how in just 2 days in 2019 the college has already received 5000 applications. He hinted about the admission of students this year and said it would be based on the cut-off of the students scored in the 4 subjects except English and Language.
