Even after paying the deposit amount plus house service connection charges to the Pallavaram Municipality, the residents of Skypark residences, a gated community present along the 200 ft Thoraipakkam - Pallavaram Radial Road have not yet got the underground drainage system or UGD to function. As a result, the residents are now running from one place to another so that this issue would be sorted out soon. The important information is from each of the 73 owners of the occupied apartments, the municipality had collected a deposit amount of Rs 10,000 and house service connection charge of Rs 510.

Mr. V. Ramakrishnan, president of Skypark Residences flat owners association expressed his views. He spoke about how after the construction of residential complex having as many as 207 flats, the builder had paid amount of Rs 207,000 towards the installation of UDS. He explained about how before occupying the flats in the year 2016, the owners had to shell out an amount of Rs 10000 per head. Inspite of paying the charges UGD have not been provided to these residents of Skypark residences. Mr. Ramakrishnan finally threw light on how in the month of April in 2018 the municipality had informed that work to provide house connections would start and even collected house service connection charges from the residents.

According to a resident belonging to Skypark Residence, the municipality had passed work orders to provide UGD connection between the apartments and the drainage network along Ganapathypuram Main Road that is present behind the complex. He was unhappy about the delay in the work.

The resident shed light on how the issue was raised with the officials and how the officials expressed their inability to provide the connections as the network along the Ganapathypuram Main Road would not be able to handle the capacity of waste generated from the apartments.

Important information gathered now is the connections would now have to be laid from the Thoraipakkam – Pallavaram Radial Road that lies in front of the apartment. He finally expressed his anger regarding the municipality’s inability to provide them underground drainage system inspite of taking amount and demanding additional amount to give functional network.

The point is the residents have filed an appeal with the TN Local Bodies Ombudsman and are now waiting for its decision. It was pointed out by another resident that around 50% of waste generated is processed at the sewage treatment plant on the premises of the gated complex.
