Traffic woes at Koyambedu

The large traffic of buses going in and out of Koyambedu’s Moffusil Bus Stand is creating congestion in the area. It is estimated that around 2000 buses frequent the station every day.
The buses also get stuck in traffic while driving through Chennai city. So, even if they depart Koyambedu on time, their arrival at their destinations is almost always delayed. To ease the difficulties of the outstation buses, alternate stations will be built in Velachery and Madhavaram.
Although funding and land have been allocated for these projects, the ongoing monorail onstruction has delayed its commencement. Rs. 48 crores and 12 acres of land have been allocated for the Velachery project and Rs. 32 crores and 8 acres for Madhavaram.
