Cooperative Institutions elections from April 5

Elections to 22,192 primary cooperative institutions in the State will begin from April 5 and go on till May 6 in five phases, according to a release from the State Cooperative Societies Election Commissioner M.R.Mohan.
As per the schedule the first phase of the election will be held in four stages. In the first stage the election for 5855 societies will be held on April 5, in the second stage it will be for 5603 societies on April 12, in the third stage it will be for 5481 societies on April 19 and in the fourth stage the election will be for 5253 societies, says the release.
The schedule for remaining four phases would be announced later, however, an official puts it that the entire phase of the elections would be over by August end.
In the previous election that took place in the year 2007 , after 1996 election, the government had to cancel the elections following incidents of violence at several places.
The election results in the case of directors of the primary cooperative societies the counting and declaration of results will be made on April 9, 16, 23 and 30 and the results of the presidents and vice presidents will be announced on April 16,23, 30 and May 6.
In August 2012, the Tamil Nadu government promulgated an ordinance to facilitate admission of members to cooperative societies.
In the second phase the election will be held for the marketing societies, cooperative sugar mills and central societies under functional Registrars (208 societies).
In the Third phase the election will be held for Central Cooperative banks, Cooperative wholesale stores and all apex societies (73).
In Phase four the poll would cover District Cooperative Unions, Cooperative Printing Presses, TN Apex Cooperative Bank, TN Consumer Cooperative Federation and TN Industrial Cooperative Bank (58).
In Phase five the election will be held for the TN Cooperative Union.
The Tamil Nadu State Cooperativ Societies Election Commission has directed the to fix the venues for filing nominations, conduct of the poll and place for counting of votes.
