Kudankalam Development Fund provision allocated

Following the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s announcement that Rs. 500 crores will be set aside for development of Kudankulam and its surrounding areas, the Union Finance Ministry has provided an allocation of Rs. 150 crores for the same.
The Finance Minister P. Chidambaram announced the provision as part of the Union Budget 2013. Kudankalam is the site at which the Nuclear Power Corporation is building two 1,000 MW reactors that is believed to be able to solve the power crisis in the State. The project is in collaboration with Russia.
