Tamil Nadu rains to continue for another 24 hours with reduced intensity

Posted on: 24/Nov/2018 4:53:16 PM
Tamil Nadu has been receiving widespread rainfall activity since last many days. These rains have also reduced the states rain deficiency to some extent. In fact, as of today, the entire state of Tamil Nadu is rain deficient by only 13%.

During the last 24 hours also, many parts of Tamil Nadu experienced moderate rain and thundershower activities with strong winds. Isolated places have also witnessed very heavy rains such as Nagapattinam that recorded very heavy rain to the tune of 167 mm and Pamban 155 mm.

In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Thanjavur recorded 71 mm of rain, followed by Parangipettai 53 mm, Adirampattinam 41 mm, Tiruppattur 28 mm and Tiruchirapalli 27 mm.

The reason for these heavy rains has been attributed to the trough in easterlies persisting and extending from Comorin to interior parts of Tamil Nadu. This weather system would be weakening and moving westwards.

Hence rains over Tamil Nadu are expected to decrease significantly after the next 18 to 24 hours. Till then we expect only light to moderate rains to continue over parts of the state.

Talking about the capital city, Chennai, it observed light rain in patches during the last 24 hours. Further we expect clouding and rain to decrease over the city. Day temperatures are expected to increase, and minimum temperatures will remain between 23 to 25 degrees.
