Government scheme benefits just 40 percent plots

Falling under a scheme that will end on 3rd November, there are just 40 percent of unauthorized plots that are regularized. The penalty towards the same is waived off by the state government. Across the state, it is said that over 14 lakh unapproved plots are observed.
This scheme has got meagre response because of reasons including rapid application processing done by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, very little awareness about localities that fall under the Directorate of Town and Council Planning.
Ramprabhu, the Vice Chairman of the southern centre of Builders’ Association or India says there are more than 5.5 lakh plots and layouts that have benefited out of the scheme and got their framework registered. Out of this count, 5 lakh of them are DTCP areas and the others are CMDA areas.
The regularization scheme was launched by the state government after formally informing the Tamil Nadu Regularization and Unapproved Layout and Plot Rules in May 2017. According to the rules mentioned, the individual owners and promoters who have got unauthorized plots or layouts can seek for regularization with an application. According to a government warning in this regard, it is said that those plots that fail to get regularized may lose their power connection and other facilities like sewage, drainage and water supply. The last date for applying for regularization will be 3rd November 2018 as the scheme comes to an end with this.
Speaking about this, the founder president of Association of Builders for Chennai Development, Mr. A. Balasubramani said the system for regularization introduced for CMDA and DTCP are totally different. Say, if there is an applicant belonging to the CMDA, he will have to submit a framework encompassing the entire layout where the unapproved plot is situated. So, for common men, it is challenging and difficult, because getting the framework ready is really touch. That is the reason for people showing poor interest I n registering under the government scheme.
It is likely that there will be another extension for the scheme, say authorities from housing and urban development department.
