The southwest monsoon rainy season, prevalent over the last 4 months made the valuable contribution of causing good copious rains throughout the country in this period of 4 months filling up all the water reservoirs and resources in this process.

The southwest monsoon rainy season, one of the most important climate features in the country, usually commences by the 1st week of June. However, this year, the southwest monsoon season commenced on 29th May and spread gradually from Kerala, then Tamil Nadu, and then spread to the rest of the country.

There were copious rains filling up all the water reservoirs/resources throughout the country from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.

Though the season weakened a bit during the middle period, the southwest monsoon rainy season intensified again during the 1st week of October causing the formation of 2 cyclones over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

These 2 cyclones crossed the coasts (Oman for Luban and Odisha for Titli). Subsequently, apart from the districts lying adjacent to Western Ghat mountain range, it has been raining for a week in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, central districts, and the delta areas.

In this situation, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has officially informed that the southwest monsoon rainy season will come to a close tomorrow (Saturday, 20th October). The Chennai Meteorological Centre has confirmed this.

The director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, explained regarding this that the southwest monsoon rainy season is set to conclude on 20th October.

Subsequently, conducive environmental conditions are set to facilitate the commencement of the northeast monsoon rainy season. The details of the exact start will be announced later.

Presently, a cyclonic format has developed in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the area adjacent to south Andhra. Because of this, there are prospects of medium rain in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the border areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra for 2 days.
