The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made an announcement that the public is free and open to being invited to offer their suggestions/recommendations/opinions regarding the procedure for fixing the course fees for the medical education.

Prior to the introduction of NEET - National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test, a pass in which is mandatory to join the medical courses. Donations worth several lakhs in Rupees were required to be paid to the various medical universities and colleges join the medical courses.

After the implementation of NEET, the medical colleges and universities stopped the system of demanding donations. However, the institutions resorted to increasing the course fees by several folds. So, even after the introduction of NEET and passing it, the students need to spend Lakhs of Rupees in pursuing medical courses.

Several complaints have been made regarding these high fees to the Indian Medical Council, UGC, and the central ministry of Human welfare and development.

Meanwhile, the Chennai High Court ordered the central government to streamline the medical course fees.

Accordingly, UGC formed a Medical Course fee fixing committee. Before fixing the fees for medical courses, it has been decided to seek the suggestions,  opinions, and recommendations of the public in this regard.

An announcement has been released by UGC in this regard. It has mentioned: ‘As the fees for the medical courses are to be reformed, the public is invited to offer their suggestions/opinions.  They are requested to submit their suggestions before 15th September to the UGC E-mail ID - dufeeregulation.ugc@gmail.com.
