As we all know, today, the 5th of September is annually celebrated as Teachers’ Day. This day commemorates the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan in the year 1888. He is the very first Vice President and the second President of India post independence. He is also a great scholar and philosopher and a proud recipient of the Bharat Ratna.
Glimpsing the history of Dr. Radhakrishnan
Dr. Radhakrishnan belongs to a Telugu family. He finished his Masters Degree in Philosophy and penned the book called The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore in the year 1917 - this is notably his very first book. With this, he took Indian philosophy to the popularity of entire world. Following this, he served at the Chennai Presidency College and Calcutta University. He also performed as the Vice Chancellor of Andhra Pradesh University between 1931 and 1936. Later on in the year 1936, the Eastern Religions and Ethics at Oxford invited Dra Radhakrishnan, and he did take up the position for 6 long years.
It is widely said that Dr Radhakrishnan considers to be a very high privilege if his birthday gets celebrated as Teachers’ Day annually. Ever since his second innings of serving as the President of India back in 1962, his birthday is widely being celebrated as Teachers’ Day as a way to show our reverence to his hard work.
What do we do on Teachers’ Day? As we popularly know, schools and students all over the country show their respect towards their teachers and elders who educate them. There are special programs conducted to celebrate this day.
Teachers! They mould the lives of thousands of students in their lifetime. Every bit of advice and teaching they give is strongly absorbed in our heart and mind such that we would remember it throughout out our life! Let us all celebrate their efforts and teachings and hard work they invest!
