Mixed reactions to rejection of mercy petition

The rejection of the mercy pleas of the associates of Veerappan has brought out mixed reactions. While the families of the convicts – Bilavendran, Gnanaprakash (also Veerappan’s brother), Meesekar Madaiah and Simon – feel this is an extreme step, the families of policemen killed by the gang feel this is justice.
Veerappan’s wife has asked for the sentences not to be acted upon. The pleas were rejected by the President and the executions are expected to take place within 14 days (refer http://www.livechennai.com/detailnews.asp?newsid=4334).
