Engineering counselling is completed - 98000 seats still to be filled

The online counselling sessions for the engineering courses conducted by Anna University got completed. Until this year, the counselling for admission to the engineering courses were conducted on a single-window system to offer seats in the engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University. However, from this year, the counselling sessions have been changed to online mode.
Because of the various issues associated with NEET for medical courses admission and associated delays, the counselling for admission to the engineering courses started rather late by a month on 21st June. 1.59 Lakhs candidates had applied for the available 1.72 Lakhs seats in 509 engineering colleges.
Out of this, 1755 seats were filled after the single-window counselling session was conducted for the category of Industrial technology students, heirs of ex-military personnel, and sports specialists.
Subsequently, the online counselling for the common or open category candidates was conducted in 5 phases for the available 170588 seats. The 5th Phase of online counselling got completed yesterday (Sunday, 19th August). 20618 candidates were offered seats. Considering all the 5 phases of the online counselling, 72608 candidates have got seats.
The Students admissions Committee of Anna University has announced that 97980 seats remain unfilled after the completion of all counselling sessions. Last year, 86355 candidates joined in the engineering courses. However, this year, the number of admission is lesser by 14000.
