A new internet website to inform about disaster news

A new website, www.tnsdma.tn.gov.in, has been set up both in English and Tamil by the state government of Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 14 Lakhs by the State Disaster Management Commission in order to provide quick announcement about any natural/other disasters to the public.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, E. Paanisamy, inaugurated the new website at the Chief Secretariat yesterday (Thursday, 16th August). The website has exhaustive details about the demographic nature, the geography data, land/mass/water geographic details, the drainage system, the record of the rainfalls, and the various schemes of the Tamil Nadu Government’s Disaster Management Commission.

 The contact telephone numbers of the weather bureaus and the important officials of the Disaster Management Commission. Seminar Halls have been set up at the Chennai office of the Revenue Administration Commissioner and the headquarters of all districts at a cost of Rs. 1.93 Crores. The Chief Minister inaugurated the same through a video conference yesterday (16th August).

Further, arrangements are being made to impart intensive training in order to improve the skillsets of the state government employees and the technical skills.

For this purpose, the Tamil Nadu Disaster Relief Camp has been linked with the Asia Disaster Readiness Centre located in Bangkok, Thailand. The Memorandum of Understanding in this regard was taken up yesterday.
