Prospects of heavy rain in 6 Tamil Nadu districts

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are strong prospects of heavy to very heavy rains in a few places in the 6 Tamil Nadu districts of Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari as the low-pressure formation over the Bay of Bengal is still prevailing,

The director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre explained that the low-pressure formation which had stabilized over the northeast Bay of Bengal and has intensified into a deep low-pressure zone. It has stabilized at the southeast of Bhubaneswar Odisha coastal area at a 30 km distance. This may drift towards the west or northwest direction.

In this situation and with high humid westerly winds blowing towards the above low-pressure zone via Tamil Nadu, there are prospects of heavy rain in the next 24 hours in the regions adjacent to the Western Ghat Mountain Range including Nilgiri and Valparai and other areas of the Coimbatore district.

There are prospects of heavy to very heavy rain in a few places in the districts of Theni, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts. There are prospects of light to medium rain in several parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

There are prospects of intermittent medium rains in the Chennai Metro City and its suburban areas.

Fishermen in the regions of North and South Andhra coastal areas are warned not to venture into the sections of the North Bay of Bengal.
