Climate Conference in Chennai

Chennai will be the venue for the climate conference to be held on February 15 and 16. The conference is a meeting of the Environmental Ministers of the countries Brazil, South Africa, India and China (BASIC).
According to Union Minister for Environment, Ms. Jayanthi Natarajan, The ministers of the group meet four times a year and the meetings are being held in each country by rotation. This time the group has decided to meet in India and we chose Chennai as the venue. This is also the first meeting of the group this year. There is no formal agenda and we will discuss climate change issues, Barring the Chinese minister, the participation of the others is confirmed. As Chinese parliament session is scheduled to begin in March, the minister`s participation is doubtful.
