For Ayush admissions in Tamil Nadu, only class 12 marks to be considered

The latest news that has come out is for admission into Ayush courses in the state of Tamil Nadu this year, NEET 2018 would not be taken into consideration. It must be noted that single window admission based on the marks scored in class 12 would be considered.

On Monday, 15th July 2018, health minister Mr. C. Vijayabaskar plus other senior health officials met chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami, in the secretariat and the decision regarding AYUSH admissions was taken in the meeting.

Previously MCI or Medical Council of India amended the Medical Council of India Act and made NEET compulsory and as sole model for admission. The Indian Council had sent notification regarding NEET being mandatory. The health minister Mr. Vijayabaskar spoke about how for the admissions this year, the conventional method admission based on Tamil Nadu Admissions in professional Education Institutions Act 2006 would be followed. The officials spoke about how no amendments were made to the Indian Council of Medical Act.

Dr. K. Senthil Raj, Indian Medicine Commissioner, stated that the department of Indian medicine would begin issuing of the prospectus for admission by the end of this week. The selection committee attached to the Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy would be doing the admissions. The merit in the class 12 with 69% rule of reservation would be the main criteria for the admissions.

Out of a total of 32 colleges of Indian Medicine, 23 colleges have got permission to admit students with 1460 seats. In 6 government colleges there are as many as 390 seats, 2 colleges in Sidha with 190 seats, one college each in Homeopathy with 50 seats, Ayurveda 60 seats, Unani 60 seats, yoga and naturopathy 60 seats. There were also representations made to the government and fee fixation committee by some private self-financing colleges to increase the fees and these colleges have been charging Rs 45000 as fees.
