The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has planned to reduce the number of seats offered for B. Tech. and M. Tech. engineering courses in the coming academic year by 1.30 Lakh seats.

Though an increasing number of engineering graduates turn out every year, the environment for suitable job opportunities is rather poor. Moreover, as it was strongly observed that most of the technical institutions do not have the required infrastructure, there have been demands to reduce the number of seats offered for the engineering courses.

In this scenario, the AICTE plans to reduce the number of seats for engineering courses by 1.30 Lakh seat gains significance.

It is worth noting that 83 educational institutions have already applied to AICTE to close down

Information is also gathered that complaints have been received that the approval for conducting some specialist engineering courses already granted must be withdrawn.
