Here are some simple tips you should follow in case your smartphone get submerged in water.

Unless an optional accidental oxidation guarantee has been added in your warranty, total immersion of the device usually voids it. Make sure you read all the clauses of your contract carefully. Sometimes certain conditions have to be met in order to obtain a refund.

Don’t try to dry your phone with a hairdryer. The heat from a hairdryer is too much. This can damage fragile electronic components in the device. Avoid placing your smartphone near a hot oven or on a radiator.

In case of your smart phone being damaged by water, do not plug a charger to it. This may cause a short circuit and will damage it further. Also, do not push any keys to any of the ports as it might push the water further into the device.

The first thing you should do if your smartphone falls into water is to switch it off. Using a wet smartphone can be risky and it may do more damage to it and may stop it from working altogether.  Once switched off, use a neat and dry cloth to wipe it thoroughly. Then, wrap it in paper tissues or a kitchen towel that will help absorb as much moisture as possible. Unplug any accessories and remove the SIM card and any memory cards. Now, try shaking the smartphone from different angles so that the extra water is drained out. Ideally, shut the phone in an airtight box with moisture absorbing sachets.

Uncooked rice grains also absorb moisture. Try leaving the smartphone completely submerged in a bag full of rice for a minimum of 24 to 48 hours.
