To train 12 lakh youths in five years the state plans a skill development programme

The news that has come out now is technical vocational training would be given to as many as 12 lakh rural youngsters in TN in the next five years. This technical vocational training is a part of skill development programme of the ruling AIADMK government.

It is worthy to note that this scheme would be announced in the upcoming budget and the scheme would combine PMKY or Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana implemented through NSDC and the ongoing state programme that was started in the year 2012-13.

Mr Mangat Ram Sharma, state labour secretary spoke about the mega plan for training the youngsters. He also hinted that the state of TN is a pioneer in this sector. He spoke about how this scheme was initiated much before the centre commenced on that regard.

The state labour secretary also touched on how over the years the allocation for the state had gone up to Rs 150 crores per annum. Centre based PMKY scheme would be granting as much as 25 percent in the proposed scheme. It must be noted that in the budget the quantum of contribution from the state would be finalized.

Mr Mangat Ram Sharma later shared his thoughts on another skill development programme oriented towards health plus automobile, retail, hospitality etc. Japan International Cooperation Agency would be funding Rs 100 cores for this.

The training of these youngsters would be done step by step that is in the first year government would be training 60000 youngsters and in the second year training of 1.5 lakh youths would be done and more in subsequent years. Employment would be given to 70 percent of these youths.

It must be noted that a senior party functionary belonging to western part of TN has mooted this proposal so that AIADMK base would get strengthened at the grass root level.
