NEET mandatory to pursue medical education abroad

The central government has approved the proposal to make a pass in the NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) mandatory even while pursuing medical courses abroad. Presently, a pass in NEET is mandatory to pursue medical courses within the country.
A pass in NEET was mandatory from the year 2016.
Meanwhile, the students who had completed the medical courses abroad, intending to return to India to start practice need to obtain a license. For obtaining this license, these applicants will have to pass the test known as FMGE – Foreign Medical Graduate Screening Examination.
Around 7000 students leave abroad every year to pursue medical courses. China and Russia are the 2 most popular countries where these candidates join medical courses. However, it has been observed that only 15% of the candidates manage to pass in the above-mentioned FMGE. A pass is mandatory to get the license to practice as a doctor in India. However, the candidates who fail also start practicing in India without the license.
In order to prevent the above malpractice, the central ministry of the department of health has approved the proposal to make a pass in NEET mandatory for the students who intend to pursue medical courses abroad.
