The officials of the Medical Education Board have informed that if the state government of Tamil Nadu approves, the system of online counselling for medical course admissions can be introduced.

The Medical Education Board conducts the admission process for the medical courses MBBS and BDS offered in the government and private medical colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu. More than 50000 candidates apply for joining the medical courses.

The counselling for admission is conducted at the Government Multi-speciality hospital. For this activity, over 150 employees, hospital employees, and computer specialists are appointed. A substantial sum is expended for food and other expenses for these staff. Further, as the counselling is conducted in a hospital, the patients are also affected.

It is also a challenge for the parents who bring their wards for the counselling to arrange the facilities for stay during the counselling sessions.

So, the Medical Education Board has taken a decision to conduct the online counselling for the medical courses for the academic year 2018-19.

The officials explained that AIIMS counselling sessions are conducted online. Similarly, it is planned to conduct the state medical counselling also online. Technical expertise has been sought from the Anna University for this purpose. A letter has been sent to the state government of Tamil Nadu for this. If approval is granted, state medical counselling will be conducted online.
