Chennai rains which had been wreaking havoc over the state capital have taken a backseat now. The weather system which had been constantly been giving heavy rains over the Tamil Nadu city has fizzled out completely. Thus, rains have taken a backseat. So much so that the city has not witnessed rains during the last 2-3 days.
However, rains will once again make a comeback over Chennai around November 12. On and off rains will continue till November 14 and 15. During this period, many coastal districts of Tamil Nadu will receive moderate showers with a few heavy spells.
During this time, the rainfall intensity is expected to be between light to moderate over Chennai as well. The possibility of heavy showers in a few areas cannot be ruled out.
These rains will be attributed to the low-pressure area which is currently over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. The system will initially move towards Tamil Nadu coast and may intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area.
Thereafter, this weather system will move in a northerly-north-northeasterly direction towards Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. Thus, rains will once again take a backseat from Chennai and its adjoining areas.
During the Northeast Monsoon, whenever any weather system develops in the southern parts of Bay of Bengal, Chennai receives good rains.
