Jayalalithaa has ordered the Chennai Corporation and the Chennai Metro Water
Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) to take up development projects worth Rs
879.78 crore to improve amenities and infrastructure in the core and extended
areas of the city.
She also ordered the creation of 784 new posts in the
corporation, apart from directing authorities to fill up 2,405 pending
vacancies.
Jayalalithaa allocated Rs 500 crore for projects ranging from
improvement of solid waste management and sewage infrastructure to the
construction of roads integrated with storm water drains, underground cable
ducts and street lamps. These works are to be taken up under the Chennai
Metropolitan Development Plan (CMDP) by the Chennai Corporation and CMWSSB.
Jayalalithaa also ordered the purchase of a total of 123
machines and vehicles for jet-rodding, pipe blockage clearance and desilting.
She also approved the purchase of 180 vehicles for garbage
clearance. These include compactors, tipper lorries, cranes and garbage
clearance trucks.
Kathivakkam, Ramapuram, Sozhinganallur and Karapakkam are set to
get underground sewage networks at a cost of Rs 245.55 crore, while Nolambur,
Karambakkam, Ramapuram, Manapakkam, Nandambakkam, Okkiyam Thoraipakkam,
Injambakkam, Sozhinganallur and Karapakkam would get extensive drinking water
facilities at a cost of Rs 192.02 crore.
