Posted on: 01/Feb/2017 2:30:00 PM
The Supreme Court of India had ordered that all the MBBS and BDS seats should be filled by conducting a national entrance examination called NEET. However the central government exempted a few states including Tamil Nadu for a year by passing an ordinance. The NEET examination for this academic year is to be conducted.

The Minister of State (Health and Family Welfare), Smt Anupriya Patel stated while replying in Lok Sabha: The central government had consulted all the state governments with regard to conduct of NEET examinations. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 will be held in Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu languages. NEET would not disturb reservation policy of the respective State Government.

Many people have been demanding that Tamil Nadu should be exempted from NEET examination since it will affect the village students. At this juncture, Health Minister C. Vijaya Bhaskar introduced a Bill in the Legislative Assembly to exempt aspirants from appearing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical and dental colleges. This bill seeks to admit students to undergraduate medical courses based on their scores in the Plus Two board examinations.

At this juncture, CBSE has announced that NEET will be conducted on 7th May. The candidates can submit the online application from January 31 to March 1, 2017. The official website to download the form is cbseneet.nic.in. The entrance test will be held at 1,500 examination centres across the country and more than 10 lakh candidates are expected to appear. Last year, in both NEET-I and NEET-II, 8, 02,594 candidates were registered.
