Single entrance examination for admission to engineering colleges

Posted on: 30/Jan/2017 11:18:08 AM
Last year the central government introduced the NEET examination for the MBBS and BDS aspiring candidates. Last year Tamil Nadu students were exempted from this examination. There is also confusion whether this NEET will be held this year,

The central government has decided to conduct a similar entrance examination for the engineering courses in the country.  The central government has decided to introduce a new scheme wherein the students aspiring for BE and B Tech courses should write an entrance examinations and secure a specified mark to become eligible. This announcement is likely to be made on 1st February during the union budget.

The central government is introducing this scheme with the aim of bringing various reforms for the higher education. It has been decided to conduct this examination throughout the country by a national testing agency

The agency will conduct a common entrance test for all engineering institutes across the country from the 2018 academic session. Finance minister Arun Jaitley may make an announcement regarding this in the upcoming Union Budget on February 1.

The Union human resource development ministry is aiming to bring in transparency to the admission procedure. Moreover students need not write multiple entrance examinations. They can write only one entrance examination.

Currently, AICTE, IIT, CBSE, CAT, GATE, NET and IIM conduct their own examinations for their respective courses. This causes inconvenience to students.

The test is likely to be on the lines in the recently introduced national eligibility-cum-entrance exam
