Apollo Hospitals is now the World�s Busiest Solid Organ Transplant Program

Maintaining its leadership in providing transplant services in the region, the Apollo Transplant Institutes became the busiest solid organ transplant program in the world having conducted 929 liver, kidney and heart transplants in 2011. 

Addressing the media on this occasion, Dr. Prathap C. We areworking with financial institutions and banks to provide innovative financial schemes and loans for our patients. We will continue to innovate and ensure that organ transplantation becomes accessible for patients with various end stage pathologiesďż˝.

Speaking about the journey of the transplant program, Dr Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director, Apollo Hospitals Group and Senior Consultant, Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals said, �The first successful liver transplant in India was conducted at Apollo Hospitals Delhi in 1998.Since then, our transplant program has consistently scaled new heights in transplantation. Sanjay, the recipient of the first successful liver transplant at the age of 18 months is now a healthy teenager of 15. We have now transplanted patients not only from all parts of our country but 44 countries�.

The Apollo Transplant Institute in New Delhi became the first in India to conduct a successful adult liver transplant and a successful pediatric liver transplant in 1998. It was also the first to conducta successful liver-kidneytransplant in India in 1999 and the first to conduct a successful liver transplant in a HIV patient in 2008. Till date, 851 liver transplants and 6912 kidney transplants have been performed since the inception of the transplant program.

Speaking about the success of liver transplantation, Dr Subash Gupta, Liver Transplant Surgeon, said, �We are humbled by the trust that patients have reposed in us by entrusting us with the most complicated of surgeries such as liver transplants and combined liver � kidney transplants�.
